The new Renault Talisman proposes a generous footprint, at 4.85 metres in length and 1.87 metres wide, yet its height does not exceed 1.46 metres. Its long wheelbase (2.81 metres) provides plenty of space for occupants and their luggage. The front and rear tracks of 1.61 metres ensure a solid on-road stance.
It is available with a choice of engines which combine performance with efficiency. The range notably features the Energy TCe 200 petrol powerplant and the Energy dCi 160 and Energy dCi 130 diesel units. These engines are especially in their element under the bonnet of the Talisman which boasts a drag coefficient (Cd) of 0.27.
The Energy TCe 200 EDC: 200 horsepower and 260Nm of torque available from 2,500rpm. This petrol unit, which is derived from Renault Sport’s direct-injection turbo engine, imbues the Renault Talisman with its sporty genes and responsive mid-range acceleration. Its nimble nature is confirmed by a 0-100kph time of just 7.6 seconds. This engine is mated to the automatic EDC 7-speed gearbox.
The 4CONTROL system is permanently active. At speeds of less than 50kph, in Comfort mode (60kph in Neutral mode, 80kph in Sport mode), the rear wheels turn in the opposite direction to those at the front, up to a maximum angle of 3.5 degrees. It feels as though the TALISMAN is shortening its wheelbase in order to favour manoeuvrability. Above these speed thresholds, the rear wheels turn in the same direction as those at the front. This effect is comparable to extending the wheelbase, the benefits being enhanced driving pleasure, stability and an impression of safety.
By coupling the 4CONTROL chassis with electronic damper control, Renault has innovated to deliver an even broader range of sensations in the realms of pleasure and safety. The benefits of these technologies and their coordination by the Multi-Sense system surpass in their form and intensity those delivered by the conventional approach which consists in adjusting engine power, steering, braking, damping... without making any fundamental difference to the scope of sensations felt by the driver. Instead of measuring and processing parameters as a function of predefined modes, the Renault system changes the game.
Like the vehicle architectures that are developed and shared by the Alliance’s brands, the Renault Talisman shares the structure of its seats with those of the Espace and of Nissan and Infiniti models. This provides Renault with more resources and scope to innovate and offer differentiating features that bear its own hallmark. An example of this expertise is the fact that the Talisman’s seat is trimmed with an original 3D fabric mesh that favours air circulation, filters and dual-density foams. The foam employed for the central part of the seat is effectively more flexible than that selected for the perimeter.
In a world first, the Talisman’s front seat backs incorporate Cover Carving Technology which takes the form of a semi-rigid shell. This innovative technology was developed in association with the French seat maker Faurecia and represents a weight saving of approximately 1kg while freeing up three centimetres of extra knee room for rear passengers, plus an enhanced impression of quality. The finish of the seats’ sides is more precise and more harmonious than that permitted by a conventional seat back shell.
Tax-paid prices for the Renault Talisman in France will start from €27,900.
