In Velocity Quest episode 6 we get to go play in the sand with a hand fabricated sand rail and talk with it's builder Mike Smith. Mike is a hard working fabricator who scratch built a sand rail in his garage in an effort to have fun and master the challenge of creating his very own vision of mechanical bliss.

His rail features a turbocharged, air cooled Volkswagen flat 4 that gives this lightweight dune hopper plenty of grunt to climb the steepest dunes with ease. Mike shows us what dune riding is all about while sharing with us some of the experiences that make it such an infectiously fun activity.
