Fernando Alonso took advantage of the sanctions from Bottas and Verstappen to start in the second row of the grid. His excellent career made him "Driver of the Day" and he was finally able to get on the podium after several races nearing third place.

The Asturian rider could not contain his excitement and celebrated with his Alpine team as if it had been a victory. Qatar was Alonso's first podium in seven years of bad luck.
