HONDA TOMO  ( length 3997mm - width 1893mm - height 1556mm - wheelbase 2690mm ) was born from a research analysis aimed at the product, its functionality and a young imagination. In Tomo, the traditional barriers between the exterior and interior of a vehicle physically exist but are conceptually overcome: the coupé volume and the mini pick-up functionality are in fact “masked” by a fashion and young urban exterior . The interior is therefore designed to offer experiences in line with the easy and friendly setting of the screens, the steering wheel and the head-up system on the windscreen.. The exterior is in turn shaped on these features, becoming almost a wearable device empathic and identifying the user , adapting itself to the urban and country scenarios as needed . Tomo has been designed for a new market segment where age doesn't matter. It aims to intercept the interest of the new generations: those who increasingly carry out a non-traditional profession; those who want to experience the vehicle in a more fun and useful way; those that consider respect for the environment, ecology and sustainability fundamental values ​​around which to build their future.

Geneva, 5 March 2019 - Another world premiere for the European Institute of Design returning to the Geneva International Motor Show to present Tomo , the electric concept car created in collaboration with Honda Design . Tomo is the result of the thesis project developed by the thirteen students of the two-year Master in Transportation Design IED Turin, home of the network that attracts young people from all over the world and trains them to become the designers of the near future.

Just like in an automotive design center , the Japanese company asked the students to work on a brief, Honda next "fun" driving , with the aim of designing what they believe should be the ideal means of transport for young people between now and six years. After a long research phase around key values ​​such as friendship, driving fun and respect for the environment, and after months of design, the idea of ​​Tomo was born, an electric concept car halfway between a smart device and a mobility tool , able to combine the needs of leisure time outside the city with those of work within theurban scenery . A vehicle of this type, designed to be a faithful companion of its user and able to adapt to his wishes and needs, could only be called Tomo, a word which in Japanese means friend , to underline the image of a vehicle. transport that contains everything the user needs in everyday life, inside and outside the city.

The Master in Transportation Design IED Turin is coordinated by Alessandro Cipolli with the collaboration of Davide Tealdi, IED teacher, and under the supervision of Luca Borgogno, Design Director Automobili Pininfarina, IED Transportation Coordinator.
