You’ve been on YouTube for hours watching your favorite YouTubers build these insane widebody, engine swapped, 1000 horsepower cars with wheels that cost more than your car, and you start to think - hey, I want to do that too, but I have approximately $27.43 in the bank, how can I make this happen? Listen, I get it, building your car is just too dang expensive - unless you’re shopping at threepiece.us, but any way you slice it putting together a sick build costs a lot of money, and sometimes you just want some help.
Your mind turns to how these YouTubers are always thanking x or y company for that new ecu or brake kit, and you’re like hey, if they’re giving this guy those parts, maybe they’ll give them to me too, after all I bring a lot to the table!
Well, to be frank with you, it’s probably not happening for you, but let’s get into why, how sponsorships actually work, and what you can do to improve your chances of getting some sponsor support to build your car

Get your first sponsor - the first thing you need to do is think long and hard about what you provide that is unique from others. Maybe you make really awesome POV driving content that focuses on the sound of your car. Maybe you’re a badass drifter, maybe you’ve got the cleanest show car around. Whatever it is, figure that thing out.

The next thing you need to do is WORK ON YOUR SOCIAL PRESENCE. It’s 2024, not 2004. Companies care about how big you are on socials. You don’t need 100k followers but you absolutely need to have 5 digit followers across multiple platforms.

Build a proposal - we know you haven’t used PowerPoint since high school but it’s time to fire it up. A proposal should be something that you can generally send to every company you want to work with so it doesn’t need to be company specific, although it’s great if you can make a slide or two speaking to what you can do for that specific company. A good deck is going to show your car, your lovely face, links to all of your socials along with follower counts, and engagement metrics as screenshots from each platform.

Contact brands - and the worst way to do this is to send a dm on Instagram asking “do u guys sponsor”? This guarantees that we will all get together in the marketing office, look at your dm, and laugh at you. That’s not just us, it’s every company. There are social media pages dedicated to this. A proper way to approach things is to contact a company via EMAIL - not phone, not dm, not text. Email. With something along the lines of - hey, I’m _____name, I’m a content creator driver etc, wondering where I can send a sponsorship proposal for consideration. Find out who that person is, then send them a TAILORED email. Do not send them some blanket email shit that says “I’m very interested in your product or service.” We will, again, all get together in the marketing office and laugh at you.

Don’t expect anything for free. Car parts are EXPENSIVE and believe it or not, cost money to make. The wheel fairy does not come here, drop off forgings for us to machine, and not charge us anything. The more expensive the product you’re requesting - the less likely you’re getting it for free. Remember that thing we talked about earlier, return on ad spend? Well - you can fire up Facebook ads, and with very little experience generally achieve a 2-3 return on ad spend. Meaning you put in a dollar, you get 2-3 out. Infinite money glitch unlocked. So, that’s your competition here. If you want a $2500 transmission you have to ask yourself - if this company put $2500 into ads they’d see $5000-$7500 out of it. Can I beat that? If you aren’t coming in as a somebody, or in other words if the brand didn’t contact you first, and it’s an expensive product expect a discount off of retail, not free product. Some brands might be ballin out of control and give you a free product if you’re a great fit, but this is the exception not the rule.
