The Mazda MX-5 Miata is a brilliant handling street car. Unsurprisingly, it’s also a highly capable race car. Kelley Blue Book editor Micah Muzio learned that fact first-hand during our Spec Miata video series, but his experience was largely limited to the first-generation Miata. To truly understand the Miata’s connection to racing it’s valuable to spend time in each of the 4 Miata generations.
Quite conveniently Mazda arranged such a test at California’s Willow Springs Raceway allowing Micah to drive race-prepped NA, NB, and NC Miatas along with the brand new, 2016, still-in-development, 4th-generation ND Miata. Countless laps and one inopportune oil leak later our appreciation for the Miata as both a street car and a race car has only grown stronger.
