In this video we explore the now dis-used and abandoned Transport Research Laboratory test facility. Sometimes referred to as the Road Research Labs. This organisation was set up in the 1930s with a view of improving and modernising motoring.

The Transport Research Laboratory carried out various tests and projects that have lead to the standardised designs and layouts that we're used to today. Without this organisations, the world of motoring could look like a very different place.

It wasn't just cars either, the research labs were involved in all manner of projects including the Dam Busters bouncing bomb and a hovertrain!? Yes indeed, and it's the transport research labs that we have to thank for pretty much every piece of infrastructure, from the road signs to the road layout.
