The VW Golf mk1 Story

Volkswagen refreshed its entire range in the early 1970s, but the most important of these cars must have been the replacement for the venerable Beetle – the Volkswagen Golf. The Beetle was such an important part of VW’s history – for a long time it was the only vehicle that they offered – so it would be a tough act to follow. Yet the replacement thrived – selling over 37M cars over 8 generations, and counting. That’s compared to 21M Beetles over a longer period.
