Two cars connected to Rallying but with very different origins. Here we have Andrew Hawkeswood in the Mazda 2 AP4+, built for the New Zealand National Rally Championship under the special AP4 regulations, although using here a 2.2L Turbocharged engine with over 500Hp and moving around 1100Kg. Against it we have Carl Ruiterman´s Subaru WRX STi, a car that was originall intended to become a RWD Drift Car but after some testing with it´s reworked 700Hp 2.1L stroked EJ20 Boxer unit, ended up becoming a Sprint/HillClimb machine.
Both placed on the overall Top 10 at this year´s edition of the Leadfoot Festival (with the MAzda being marginally faster), but definitely both quite spectacular machines showing how unique the New Zealand Racing scene in their different motorsport fields.
