The 2025 MG HS is looking to reshape the mid-size SUV segment, which is arguably the most competitive class of vehicle in Australia. That's right; the next-gen Chinese family car is looking to outshine the best-selling Toyota RAV4 as well as the popular Mazda CX-5, Mitsubishi Outlander and Hyundai Tucson, among others.
So, what does the new HS bring to the table? Well, it's been redesigned inside and out, meaning buyers are treated to a fresh look that's more in line with the next-gen MG3 light hatchback and the fully electric MG4. A petrol engine (125kW/275Nm 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder) remains the entry-level option, while a yet-to-be-detailed plug-in hybrid alternative is due soon.
In this expert review, CarsGuide Deputy News Editor gets behind the wheel of the petrol-powered HS, in flagship Essence form, to find out how well it measures up against its stiff competition.
